The
Improver
Better turns into never enough.
How this pattern works
My system moves towards better. I see the flaw before I see the whole, and my hands want to fix it. My standards are real. But somewhere along the way, improving becomes never finishing. And almost becomes never enough. Everyone else sees done. I still see the gap.
One moment, up close
It was almost perfect. Almost is the only word I heard.
Everyone else moved on. I went back for one more pass.
I praise it out loud. Inside, I am already fixing it.
Almost
What everyone sees: complete
What I see
Ninety-eight percent, and the room calls it done. Now watch what this pattern does. The gap does not grow. The attention does. Until two percent is all there is.
Where this began
Once, getting it right kept things safe. A child who made no mistakes was a child who gave no one a reason to be upset.
The pattern never stopped correcting. Even long after no one was checking.
The rest of this pattern
There is more. And yes, some of it is slightly crooked.
A pattern reads differently when it is yours. The full reading covers every room below, and it only really lands when it is speaking to you.

In your reading
You noticed the crooked ones, didn't you. And straightening them felt good, for exactly as long as your hand stayed there. That is the pattern, running in your own fingers. The full reading is where it loosens its grip on them.
